MAKENNA NICHOLS - 2029 ASSISTANT COACH

Lacrosse has been a central part of my life since I was in 1st grade growing up in the East Bay. My passion for the sport led me to play year-round, traveling every summer to compete with various teams. I started with the youth team Scorpions and continued my journey at San Ramon Valley High School, where I developed a deep love for the game. I was fortunate to play Division I lacrosse for three years at San Diego State University. During this time, I experienced incredible friends and teammates. However, in my senior year, I made the incredibly difficult decision to step away from lacrosse. This decision, rooted in a need to prioritize my mental health, was one of the toughest but ultimately the best choices for my well-being. Now, at 23, I'm living in San Francisco and pursuing my Master's in Education. My goal is to become a certified elementary school teacher, where I can inspire and educate the next generation. Lacrosse will always hold a special place in my heart, and the lessons I learned on the field continue to influence my journey as an educator.

Brielle went on to Chatham University in Pittsburgh, PA where she studied cell and molecular biology, played on the women’s lacrosse team, participated in a range of clubs and student government. She worked as a peer tutor and in Chatham’s Athletic and Fitness Center, managing sporting events. She was named to the IWLCA Division III Academic Honor Roll in 2022 and to the Dean’s List four times. On the field, she led the team in all-time career points (122) and career assists (54). She was a season leader in points in 2020 and 2022, and assists in 2020, 2021 and 2023. She also holds the program records for single game points (11) and single game assists (7).  She was named President’s Athletic Conference player of the week in 2021 and was an honorable mention and three-time notable performer in 2022. She was also named to the President’s Athletic Conference All-Conference Team in 2022.

She went on to pursue a master’s degree in biological science from Dominican University of California. She is interning at the Buck Institute for Research on Aging where she is doing research Alzheimer’s Disease in the Lithgow Lab. She continued her athletic career with the Dominican Women’s lacrosse team in their first season of play. She was a recipient of the WCLA Academic All-American award this past season. She is in her second season as a graduate-student athlete playing for the Penguins this year!

She really enjoys spending time helping young girls to learn the game, improve their skills and grow as the next generation of lacrosse players and community members. Brielle coached for T3 Elite and volunteered with the Caldwell-West Caldwell lacrosse club in New Jersey. Since moving to California, she has been involved in growing the game on the west coast, coaching youth programs throughout Marin and San Francisco.
